FAQ

What is CT 66 BNI?

We are reputable business people gathering to improve our businesses.

Our networking group has been active since 2005.

We are based in Marlborough, CT but gather business all over Connecticut.

We meet at American Legion (see map) every Friday from 7 to 8:30 am

We believe in personal, word-of-mouth advertising.

We are structured, positive, energetic, and supportive.

Can anyone join the CT 66 BNI?

We only take one person from each field. So if you are a residential real estate person and we already have one, we can possibly refer you to another networking group. We welcome visitors but we do have a screening process before you become a member to make sure there is a good match. Are you energetic, motivated, and looking for more business? Join us at a meeting as our guest and find out how it can work for you!

Is there a "quota" on referrals I have to give?

No. Many of our members started out wondering if they could come up with enough leads to maintain their membership. If you are in business and like to help others in need of a member's service, we will teach you how to become a powerful networker. And nothing gets you more business than giving referrals to others! If you are motivated, we have the tools.

How much does it cost?

Initiation fees and dues are currently $75 one time initiation and $330/year dues (how many sales per year do you need in order to get a return on that great investment??). We have quarterly dues $50 to pay for the American Legion hall rental.

Do you have meetings every week?

Yes, except for major holidays and weather-related cancellations. If you want to visit our group, it is a good idea to contact us to let us know you are coming in case there is a cancellation. If the Marlborough Public Schools are canceled or delayed due to weather issues, that meeting will be canceled ed as well..

Is this a social event where I can get more business?

CT 66 BNI is made up of professional business people all looking to improve their business. Our meetings are structured and run like a sales meeting. If you want to be energized and have fun in a structured business meeting, we want to introduce you to our group. If you are looking for a casual relaxing social gathering, we may be too energetic for your needs. Do you want more business or more socializing? If you want more business, contact us and come visit our group.

What should I expect at a meeting as a visitor?

Our Chapter's Leadership Team will be introduced. You will be introduced.

You will receive a roster with members' information on it.

All members will introduce themselves and their company, give a Sale Manager Minute about their business and define the type of referral they are looking for, as specifically as possible. They tell short stories, show things, sing, whatever, to create an indelible memory.

As the "commercial" triggers a "you should talk to X," members will complete referral slips which are available on the table. You are encouraged to do the same. When members have finished, you will have the opportunity to give your own 45 second commercial, following the above routine.

Some internal business will be conducted - upcoming events, recognitions, etc.

There will be speakers for 5 and 10 minutes when everyone learns more about what our members and what they really do, so we can give better referrals.

Then... the real reason we get together... Referral Time! Each person stands, introduces themselves again, and give any referrals they have.

Visitors will follow in order with the group and when it is your turn you may give referrals or simply comment on your reactions to the meeting.

How do you know new members are reputable?

The application asks for references and we have a membership committee that checks them. It's word of mouth, so before a potential member even comes to our meeting they have to have spoken to someone or been invited by someone in the group. Everyone has to have a sponsor, or one is assigned to them, and the sponsor interviews the applicant.

What if a member gets a referral and does poor work?

We have an ethics committee and it is imperative that anyone who gives a lead and finds out it was not satisfactorily handled must report that to the membership committee, who will investigate.

What occupations benefit the most from networking?

It is not the occupation, it is the individual. The occupation can be anything. If you're focused and you have a dream and you're willing to make a sacrifice, you are the person we want in our group.

Are you affiliated with Business Network Int'l (BNI)?

Yes, CT 66 BNI is a chapter of BNI.

There are other networking groups out there. Why yours?

CT 66 BNI is one of the strongest chapters of BNI in the state. We take our networking seriously (in a fun environment) as this is our means to grow our own businesses (and don't be fooled... we are in it for the money!). Many of us have been involved in this networking group for years and we know from experience what works (and what doesn't). If you are willing to jump in and learn, our experienced networkers will teach you how to become a strong business networker. Would you rather belong to a networking group or a networking group that networks? If you want to start networking, contact us.
